Forward Janesville - TheReport - Fourth Quarter 2019
16 • W W W . F O R W A R D J A N E S V I L L E . C O M Why is community engagement so meaningful right now in Janesville? I believe Janesville is on the cusp of something great—redefining itself from the era of plant closings and facilities relocating. To use a cliché, we are like a phoenix rising from the ashes. So how can everyone feel that they are contributing meaningfully to what is happening? Community engagement. There are many paths to engagement. An individual might work for an organization that is actively involved in the community or simply be a family that takes part in the offerings we have as a community. There are many fantastic businesses here in Rock County that are actively engaged and allow and encourage their employees to be involved in community programs. For example, Forward Janesville recently partnered with our business peers who are doing great things as a way of giving back to the community: • Premier Bank offered free paper shredding and sold food and baked goods with proceeds going to the YWCA; • Associated Bank hosted a BA5 and donated all of the remaining food to Project 16:49; • Basics Coopera ve hosted a block party benefitting Housing 4 Our Vets; and • Texas Roadhouse cooked for our Ambassador meeting and donated the profits to our Ambassador Grant Program, which awards member local non-profits grants for special projects that are distributed at the Forward Janesville annual Awards Luncheon every January. These are just a few of the amazing partnerships going on in our community. I chose to speak about community engagement this quarter because I hear from so many companies that want to get more active and involved, and I have witnessed how those that are engaged get something greater in return. These partners see their employees taking renewed pride in our city and there is a growing sense of accomplishment when someone has taken part in a community event. Employees carry this attitude back to work with them, thus creating a better work environment. Take a look outside and take no ce of what has changed in just the past year. Now ask yourself “What can we do as an organiza on to improve our community?” . . . and then take ac on!
