We love getting outdoors—biking, camping, hiking, or even just playing in the driveway. It was nice in many ways to have more free time this year. Hockey just picked up, so we are time-poor once again, but it does feel a bit more “normal.” The kids were really missing sports. People might be surprised to learn I play the guitar and have since college. All of my friends at UW-Oshkosh were music majors and played instruments, and I was envious. I play for an audience of one, and it has really helped me through so many seasons in life, to express both joys and sorrows. HOW DID I GET HERE? s u c c e s s • c h a l l e n g e s • l i f e l e s s o n s • e d u c a t i o n • c a r e e r • f a m i l y • i n s p i r a t i o n s Believe in something and serve. Faith gives me strength, focus and peace when things fall out of control. We really can’t control people, opinions or anything and that’s okay. They are challenges to persevere and hold to love and truth. Let your actions speak for you. 1 2 3 I am a fairly laidback person, so it might surprise some that I started out in the Marine Corps. It really helped me understand the importance of setting expectations. You knew exactly what you were supposed to do and what was expected of you. I get up around 5 or 5:30 and take a morning walk. It’s phenomenal what it does for your brain and how much energy it gives you. It helps me keep up! While it’s been a challenging year given COVID, we definitely have grown and learned quite a bit at Foremost through the process. As a tech company, we were well- positioned to move to a remote working environment. Our employees really met or exceeded all expectations in that new world. That was rewarding—a positive during of a very difficult situation. • Today, my faith plays a key part in my life. So many things were out of my control on top of losing my father last year. My boys were the ones who encouraged me to attend church. I am extremely grateful that I “caved in,” went and surrendered. { LIFE LESSONS } Being a part of Forward Janesville is important to us. We pride ourselves on being located right here in Janesville. We want to be a part of the community, work together and give back. ANDY WALKER CO-OWNER FOREMOST MEDIA Set clear expectations. Many of my “a-ha” moments have come from my coaching experiences. You see how kids respond to encouragement and expectations. If you set high achievable expectations, kids will meet them and grow in self-confidence when they do. Adults are no different. Communication is critical. Everyone is coming from a different perspective and with different experiences. Learning how to listen and then communicate in a way that someone can really hear you makes all the difference in everything you do—personally and professionally. • • • { EDUCATION } 2001-2003 BS, Management Computer Systems University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Whitewater, Wisconsin 1995-1996 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Oshkosh, Wisconsin { WORK EXPERIENCE } 2015-2020 Co-Owner Rock County Brewing Company Janesville, Wisconsin 2008-PRESENT Developer ForemostBrewing.com Janesville, Wisconsin 2003-Prese t Founder, CIO and CTO Foremost Media Janesville, Wisconsin 1996-2004 Communications Chief United States Marine Corps Camp Pendleton, California Manchester, Missouri 16 • W W W .
