Forward Janesville - TheReport - Second Quarter 2023
“You see what can happen when people have vision, want a great community and work together. You can accomplish a whole lot of things,” Squire said. Squire has had a front-row seat to an evolution over his 25 years at Johnson Financial. Johnson was certainly not the largest organization in Janesville when he started, Squire said. He and his peers built a team and a culture that kept getting bigger and better but always remembering that community building was paramount. He proudly remembers a defining moment when reports from the Small Business Administration showed how many PPP Loans Johnson Financial was able to process for clients.. “From the banking side, you realize whether you’re an individual or business, life goes on,” Squire said. “You have to make sure you’re having quality conversations to make sure you’re meeting your clients where they are at. Everyone is always at a different spot at a different point in time.” The culture at Johnson Financial today is one centered around teamwork. There are no lone rangers and everyone is focused on helping customers, Squire said. “This is the best team I have ever worked with. Honestly, our community including our business community has that same culture. I look to programs like Leadership Development Academy and JOIN Janesville, and I am optimistic.” That culture and talent is what makes Squire confident in his decision to retire. “Everything is in great hands. It’s time for me to get out of the way and let the new bunch take over. Moore is experiencing the same thing at the police department. The new generation of workers want a sense of purpose, which law enforcement has always been able to offer, Moore said. “They don’t want to go out and do the same thing day in and day out and feel like they aren’t accomplishing anything.” Janesville police under Moore’s leadership has developed a system that places young officers in roles that fit what they are passionate about, which makes for excited and engaged workers. It’s a system that Moore has seen other departments ask about or start to mirror. “It is the dedication of the staff I have that cause you to end up with the outcomes we see and enjoy,” Moore said. “I will say it starts with paying respect to our citizens, and in return, you have a community that trusts its police department.” There were times when Moore said he would not have left his position. But now, with a deep lineup of talent and a community moving forward, he says there’s no better time to leave. Both Moore and Squire plan to stay in Janesville, spend time with family and catch up on hobbies. For Squire, that means helping his brother on his family farm in Burlington, helping his daughter with landscaping projects, golfing, skiing and fishing. His group of active friends will keep him busy, Squire said. Moore plans to spend a lot of time in airplanes both behind the wheel and in the seats. He’s a hobby pilot who “hasn’t been able to get in the air like he used to,” and his son is a commercial pilot, which allows him many opportunities to travel. “My family deserves more attention from me, Moore said. “... I don’t think there will be a day where I don’t have a pretty full agenda.” If you need Squire (or just want to say hello) he won’t be far. “We are still in Janesville. This is still our home. We still want to be part of the community. This community was the right fit for me personally and professionally beyond anything I could have imagined. I am so thankful we ended up here, and this path kind of found me.” 8 | FORWARD JANESVILLE I look to programs like Leadership Development Academy and JOIN Janesville, and I am optimistic.” That culture and talent is what makes Squire confident in his decision to retire. “Everything is in great hands.
