“Janesville is poised to capitalize on the significant industrial expansion that has occurred on the south side in recent years and much of that attention will be directed toward the Center Avenue commercial corridor. This is an important contributor to the City’s ability to find resources to meet city needs. Most in our community are aware of the tremendous progress in downtown and the revitalization of an area that was in significant decay. Visible progress is also being made along the critical commercial corridor of Highways 26 and 14. A city positioned for sustainable growth has to look at all of its area. Janesville’s Southside has gone through a significant economic expansion. City leaders, private developers, and citizens are focused on supporting a well-balanced development plan for the southside that builds a residential and retail base alongside the current industrial and agricultural base. This direction was articulated in the City’s 2024-27 strategic plan and addressed in the recently completed draft update to the Comprehensive Plan. There are some tremendous community assets on the Southside and Forward Janesville is looking forward to working with our members that have a presence on the Southside to continue to promote its thoughtful development.
