Forward Janesville - TheReport - Third Quarter 2023
14 | FORWARD JANESVILLE MEMBER ENGAGEMENT What motivated you to join GRC? Prior to joining the GRC, I had been an FJ Ambassador for a number of years. I’ve always been interested in “What’s going on” and believed that the GRC would be a great way to become better informed and more involved. What do you enjoy most about GRC? Honestly, there are two answers to this question. The first really revolves around the idea of “What’s going on”. The GRC provides a good mix of exposure to public policy, current local events, and other items that impact the business community. The second is the ability to build connections with both the committee’s members and the community leaders that join us for our meetings. Best Quality: I like to think that I’m a “Doer”. I think it’s important to be a person who has a plan, is willing to take some sort of action, and works to get things done. Worst Habit: I was in a class many years ago where “The Four Quadrants of Knowledge” were discussed. The one quadrant that you should always avoid is being in a position of “Not knowing what you don’t know”. With that scenario in mind, I tend to overthink things. Where would we fi nd you on a weekend? There’s a long answer to that question. We really love to go out and do things with our friends and with our family. When possible, I like to try and make golf a nine-month sport. Joni and I’s spring and fall weekends are often filled with our son, Evan’s travel soccer games. Evan and I also like to bike, kayak, and to go fishing. I also enjoy visiting state parks and hiking with my daughters, McKenna and Sam. Joni and I are foodies and we like to try different restaurants on weekends. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, we also enjoy playing cribbage or euchre. What is your favorite thing to do locally? Joni and I really made a focus on visiting locally owned restaurants after the pandemic. What is your number-one bucket list item? Joni and I had an amazing time when we visited the Netherlands and Norway earlier this year. It really gave us the “Travel bug” and we are looking forward to visiting Europe again in the future. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Get involved – The only way to really make a difference for your community is to get involved in your community. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? This question really piggybacks onto my bucket list. I really enjoy history and it’s amazing how many thousands of years of history are available in Europe. I’m going to leave my answer a bit more open- ended than a single city or a single country, I really would like to go back and visit more of Europe in the coming years. What word best summarizes you? Ambitious Forward Janesville, Inc. (FJI) is a volunteer-powered organization. With a staff of five and a volunteer corps of 100+, our community impact is multiplied by volunteer involvement. FJI member-volunteers utilize their time and talents on our Government Relations, Latinx, and Education Councils, serve on our Board of Directors, and connect with FJI member businesses as Ambassadors. Collectively, they’re a group of connectors and collaborators who want to be involved in the community and make a difference.
