Forward Janesville - TheReport - Third Quarter 2023
You cannot control other people’s opinions of you. 1 2 3 { LIFE LESSONS } A walk through nature can fix a lot. No task is beneath you. 16 | FORWARD JANESVILLE This is not a plant industry, it’s a people industry. You grow plants but you work with people. That’s more important. For whatever reason, people feel comfortable opening up to us. We are calm people in general in a calm environment. For funerals, or situations like that, people will often tell us about the person. It is really nice that they open up and sometimes cry and get it all out there. I have always liked that part. For my wedding I did basically the opposite of everyone in Wisconsin and got married on a beach in Florida with little foliage or flowers. My mother did make me a flower crown out of Lilies of the Valley, which is my favorite flower. They had to be artificial, though, because the flowers would wilt immediately in the Florida heat. Growing up, my mother always knew the flower of the month and which flowers had what meanings. Lily of the Valley is my flower for May. We always planted it together, picked it together, smelled it together. It’s very sentimental. For somebody buying their first home or a new home in Janesville and hasn’t put roots down yet, I would say my heart is with trees. I recommend you grow a beautiful maple tree in your yard. They grow fast, provide shade and change into glorious colors in the fall. That’s how you leave your mark. You will have left something in nature that will be there for 100 years. I am recently married. My husband and I enjoy camping. We own a camper and like to camp with friends. We own a cottage and like to go up there and enjoy swimming and being on the lake. I guess you can say we are outdoorsy. We’re also part of a bowling league. My parents Bill and Phyliss Williams were the original owners. They retired six or seven years ago. It was the understanding my stepbrother and I would take over the family business, that’s how family businesses are. When there is a next generation, there usually is a plan in place. I always used to say I wasn’t a plant person or I wasn’t a plant nerd because it was just always part of my life. In reality, I always have been. All day you’re surrounded by plants here and you take that for granted. I have six or seven plants on my desk right now. It is in you whether you realize it or not. • We are really proud to be a part of Janesville. There is a lot of pride that comes with that. I love that people in Janesville want to support local and are excited when new things come to town. People are proud to live here and it is really nice to see that. I love Janesville pride. I have it myself.
