Forward Janesville - TheReport -Third Quarter 2022

The Community Dashboard is about celebrating the things the greater Janesville community is doing well and creating awareness about areas that could use additional community attention and focus. We believe this data tool will unite the community to work on issues that we must address to make Rock County a vibrant community that retains our citizens and attracts newcomers. Dashboard metrics that are trending positively are listed in green, while metrics trending negatively are listed in red. The Dashboard currently has 23 data points trending positively, which highlights the great reasons families and employers choose our community to live, work and play. A few examples of areas where we accel are Rock County GDP, the Janesville crime rate, and median home listing price in the Janesville-Beloit MSA. The process to develop the Dashboard involved benchmarking other communities that have established similar data sets, reaching out to Janesville community partners for their input on what metrics to use to create the most comprehensive cross section of our community, and developing an engaging, user-friendly tool that will create synergy and coordination with community stakeholders. The Dashboard has been well received in the community and across the state. Quint Studer of the Studer Group said, “The look and understanding (of the Dashboard) is excellent. It also provides a clear path on what to focus on.” Former Janesville City Manager Mark Freitag said, “(The Dashboard) looks awesome! Thanks for working on this project for the greater community.” We have also received inquiries from several Wisconsin communities that would like to develop a dashboard for their communities. The Dashboard gives a 360-degree look at how our community scores, measuring everything from education, crime rates, and health and wellness to gross domestic product and workforce statistics. The Dashboard focuses on providing objective data and measurement that can help focus and guide plans for moving the Rock County community forward.
